Strategies and Tips for Playing Black Jack

February 15th, 2010

There are a growing number of online casinos that are coming up with more and more sophisticated gaming software. They are in turn sucking in more and more players everyday. Although no one can guarantee you a win, there are a number of tips that you can follow to increase your chances of winning. It is crucial to understand the meanings of hard and soft hand and the full strategy of playing the game.

Hard hands comprise of all cards except the ace. The categories of hard hand include stiff pats and not bust pats. The stiff hands are the ones from 12 to 16 while the bust hand cards are the ones between 4 and 11 and contain an ace. The value of pats usually ranges between 17 and 21. Following are some of the best tips to ensure your success at the game.

Splitting Hands Strategy

This is another frequently used trick in this game. This trick is especially useful in the case of many odds. A hand can only be split if there is a pair of cards. The player needs to know the face up cards of the dealer as odds can be determined from them.

Hitting Strategies

Think carefully before hitting once you see the face cards of the dealer and the other players. Follow proper strategies for hitting and trust me, there are a lot of them. Some probabilities include the dealer showing 7 to 10 or an ace from a hard hand while another player reveals a soft hand of 19 20 and an ace with 8 9.

Doubling Down

Doubling down is a common practice in this game. The trick is that if a player shows a 9 10 and 11, the chance of a hit card stands at approximately 10.

Timing Your Surrender

Unlike other Casino games, Black Jack permits players to surrender. However, even this has to be done with a proper strategy. If a player has fifteen or if there’s an ace in the hands of the dealer, the player can surrender.

Best Gambling Strategies For Blackjack

February 11th, 2010

Going gambling without prior knowledge of what you’re up against is like going into battle without a gun. Since you’re risking your money with every move, you might as well make the most out of your gambling experience. I believe that a good strategy helps you develop your game and get you more wins than losses, so I have prepared a short but concise article that discusses helpful strategies for one of the most popular casino games – blackjack.

The game of Blackjack is an all-time favorite of veteran gamblers. This is one of those rare casino games where skill actually plays a part whether you win or lose. Blackjack uses the mathematics of probability to reduce the house edge and improve the odds for you. Using a solid and effective strategy in blackjack will limit the house edge to around one-half of a percent, although the effectiveness of your strategy will always depend on the actual rules and the number of decks used, which may vary according to the casino you’re playing in.

Basic blackjack rules state that the dealer must hit on a count of 16 or less, and stand on a count of 17 or more. This is all very good for the house, but if you follow that exact same strategy, you will actually be giving the house a 5.7% edge. So this means that for every $100 you bet on the table, you stand to lose $5.70.

The house advantage is the percentage given to the casino. When you analyze the statistics involved in the game, you will find that for every five hands dealt in blackjack, two hands will not be in your favor. Why? Because the first two cards you’re going to be dealt with will either add to 17-21 35% of the time, 12-16 39% of the time, and less than 11 26% of the time. You will see that the first two cards you’re going to be dealt with are going to be good only 35% of the time.

Here is a list of a basic strategy guide for playing hard totals in blackjack:

If you have a hard total of 8 or less, always hit.

If you have a hard total of 9, hit if the dealer has an up card of 2, 7, 8, 9, 10 or Ace. Now, if the dealer has a 3, 4, 5 or 6 – double down if you can; if not, hit.

If you have a hard total of 10, hit if the dealer has a 10 or Ace. If the dealer has a 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8 or 9 – double down if you can; if not, hit.

If you have a hard total of 11, hit if the dealer has an Ace. If the dealer has a 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, 9 or 10 – double down if you can; if not, hit.

If you have a hard total of 12, hit if the dealer has a 2, 3, 7, 8, 9, 10 or Ace. Stand if the dealer has a 4, 5 or 6.

If you have a hard total of 13 or 14, stand if the dealer has a 2, 3, 4, 5 or 6. Hit if the dealer has a 7, 8, 9, 10 or Ace.

If you have a hard total of 15, stand if the dealer has a 2, 3, 4, 5 or 6. Hit if the dealer has a 7, 8, 9 or Ace. If the dealer has a 10, you have to surrender if you’re allowed to; if not, hit.

If you have a hard total of 16, stand if the dealer has a 2, 3, 4, 5 or 6. Hit if the dealer has a 7 or 8. If the dealer has a 9, 10 or Ace, surrender if you are allowed to do so, otherwise hit.

If you have a hard total of 17 or higher, always stand.

Strategy guide for playing soft totals in blackjack:

If you have an Ace 2 or Ace 3 soft total, hit if the dealer has an up card of 2, 3, 4, 7, 8, 9, 10 or Ace. If the dealer has a 5 or 6 – double down if you can; if not, hit.

If you have an Ace 4 or Ace 5 soft total, hit if the dealer has a 2, 3, 7, 8, 9, 10 or Ace. If the dealer has a 4, 5 or 6 then double down if you are allowed to do so, otherwise hit.

If you have an Ace 6 soft total, hit if the dealer has a 2, 7, 8, 9, 10 or Ace. If the dealer has a 3, 4, 5 or 6 – double down if you can; otherwise, hit.

If you have an Ace 7 soft total, stand if the dealer has a 2, 7 or 8. Hit if the dealer has a 9, 10 or Ace. If the dealer has a 3, 4, 5 or 6 – double down if you can; otherwise stand.

Blackjack Tips – Strategies Galore

February 3rd, 2010

The basic essence of the game of blackjack was woven into the psyche of the majority of us by the time we hit our early teens. As children we saw our parents, grandparents, aunts and uncles gather around a large table in the recreation room shortly after holiday meal. We observed them involved in a game in which the object was to get closer than the dealer to a total of “21″ with a hand of cards. The adults in our family would play and laugh and reminisce for hours. So, naturally, as kids we tried to emulate our parents. Therefore, in the next room, we would play our version of “21′ or, as we grew older, blackjack as it was called.

As we went through high school and on to college, we fell in love with the game of blackjack once again. Only, this time we weren’t trying to emulate adults; we were attempting to outsmart the system by devising strategies to effectively cope with any blackjack card combination dilemma that might come our way. We would practice on ourselves, and then put our theories to the litmus test at the casino parlor blackjack table.

Tips for Blackjack Play

The basic blackjack strategy is designed for a set protocol of operation if your two cards are a certain total and the dealer’s show card is a certain number. If your two card total is:

5, 6, 7 or 8 — Hit no matter the dealer’s card.

9 — Double your bet (if allowable by casino rules) if dealer has 3-6; otherwise, hit.

10, 11 — Double your bet if dealer has a 2 through 9; otherwise, hit.

12 — Hit if dealer has a 2 or 3; stand if the dealer has a 4, 5 or 6; hit 7 and above.

13, 14, 15, 16–Hit 7 and above; stand if dealer has a 2 through 6.

17 and above– Stand pat with your hand.

Don’t Waste Your Time

If you take the basic tips for playing blackjack and utilize them in play, the chances are very good that you will be maximizing your playing time in terms of giving yourself the best opportunity to win every game you play.

There are some fallacies about the game of blackjack, sort of blackjack tips to avoid:

1. If I follow a given strategy, I will win money at blackjack-No, not true. The percentage is .05 in the casino’s favor, whether its on land or online

2. I can win at blackjack over the long stretch of time-No, you have a better shot over a short period of time. The odds favor the casino in the long run.

3. I can only have fun if I win-No, that is not true. Blackjack is a game that is meant to be enjoyed. If we bet with our heads and not over it, we’ll find our experience at the blackjack table fun and enjoyable whether or not we win money.

These blackjack tips are not foolproof, but they set a certain standard of respectful play for both ourselves and for our fellow players, both on land and in online casino parlors.
